About the role…

The core purpose of this role is to be responsible for supporting the welding coordination team in enhancing the welding quality management system WQMS, setting standards by helping to develop WPS and ensuring that welder training requirements/qualifications are maintained. The role also requires providing proactive support and guidance to the manufacturing teams to ensure that the welding standards are adhered to.

Key duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Report to and support the welding co-ordinator with day-to-day welding activities.
  • Assist with internal welder audits and the audit functions.
  • Help identify root causes of weld issues and internal weld audit NCRs.
  • Support and implement changes driven by welder audit NCRs.
  • Assist with the development of WSP/WPS as required for new product intake (NPI) and legacy programmes.
  • Assist with the planning and preparation of weld joints for welding procedure quality records (WPQRs) as required for new product intake (NPI) and legacy programmes.
  • Monitor WPS as instructed by the welding co-ordinator to ensure correct correlation of essential variables.
  • Support the ISO 3834 management system.
  • Assist with the development of welder qualification testing to the required standard.
  • Provide proactive support and guidance to welders.
  • Maintain welder qualification database.
  • Support production engineering where welding changes are required.
  • Support the business to ensure correct welding plant selection.

What we’re looking for…

Applications will be considered from those who are CSWIP 3.0 qualified with time served experience within a similar role. We need you to have a good knowledge and understanding of multiple welding processes such as MIG/MAG (SMAW) and TIG (GTAW), to have an understanding of technical documents including drawings, a working knowledge of ISO 3834 and good general computer skills such as in Microsoft Office. It would be advantageous to be registered with The Welding Institute (TWI), to be CSWIP 3.1 qualified, to be IWS/EWS qualified, to hold a good understanding of mechanised welding systems, to have exposure to external audit activity, to hold previous training experience and to have a working knowledge of DIN 2303, additional training will be given for the right candidate.
