About the role…

The core purpose of this job function is to be responsible for the machining of parts to specifications using the machine tools in which the job holder has been trained. Key duties include, but are not limited to:

  • To comply with the Environmental, Health, and Safety Policy and identify health and safety hazards before the commencement of work.
  • To perform “Start of Work” machine inspections before shift commencement.
  • To report via approved maintenance reporting procedures any machine fault or unusual occurrence.
  • To read and understand engineering drawings to ensure all parts machined conform to drawing and planning specifications.
  • To set and operate CNC milling machines and retrieve and input CNC programs from the network in accordance with the appropriate paperwork.
  • To select appropriate tools, equipment, and materials in preparation for machining.
  • To measure, examine and visually inspect components to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments such as micrometres and verniers to drawing specifications.
  • To input production tickets onto SAP on completion of each task.
  • To provide assistance/training to the semi-skilled machinists and new starts when necessary.
  • To comply with the company’s Environmental Health & Safety policies and any regulatory agencies to ensure that the safety of all employees is not compromised.
  • To maintain a clean and orderly work area as required.
  • To conduct daily duties in a highly professional manner.

What we’re looking for…

We need you to hold a minimum of grade 4 in maths and English at GCSE Level or equivalent and to ideally have an NVQ level 2 or 3 in Engineering/Machining or HNC/HND alongside a machining apprenticeship or being time served. We need previous experience in a fast paced engineering environment and to have previous experience of running CNC machining centres. SAP experience is desirable.
